Minimalism

I use quotes all the time to really inspire me when I’m in a rut. One of my favorite quotes is by Thoreau: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.” Found via Sasha, one of my BYW fellow classmates. Today I stumbled upon the above quote over here that struck a strong cord with me. I am guilty of impulse purchases and buying just to have pretty shiny new things. But as I look at my daughter imitate every move and sound I make, it got me thinking. Do I want her to take after my bad habits of shopping just to shop? Buying just to buy? Thoughts like these aren’t learned in books about parenting. It just hits you one day and you start to look inside and re-evaluate your priorities, your decisions, your every move. Who am I? Who do I want to be? And how can I guide this impressionable young mind? The thoughts that are swimming through my mind…

Do you have a favorite quote you’d like to share? How does it inspire you?

I agree completly, the less you need the more you have and we really have no control over anything other than our ability to deal with our perceptions. I travel a lot and I consider myself a high end minimalist.I dont take much with me,leaving most back home where I sometimes go months without returning to which is always nice to do but I find myself more at home with less. But I do prefer the best quality both in the people I associate with and in myself. Please visit my sites,You may find them interesting.

I adore the quote from Harry Potter:

“It is the unknown we fear, when we look upon death and darkness.”

It may not be uplifting to start with, but it always helps remind me that yes, everyone is afraid of certain things…and that’s okay. That the unknown can be scary but it gets better.

i don’t think these are actual quotes from famous people, but these two quotes are from two people that i love tremendously always get me through tough times….

the first, something my husband always tells me….

“do not let things which you can not control consume you.”

and the second, something my mother always used to tell me….

“there is always someone worse off than you, so count your blessings and be grateful for what God has given to you”. really puts things into perspective.

I have two. The first reminds me to be confident in following my dreams…

    dance
as though no one is watching you,

    love
as though you have never been hurt before,

    sing
as though no one can hear you,

    live
as though heaven is on earth

    souza

The second, is for my beautiful mother, my guiding star…

    Perhaps they are not stars
    but rather openings in heaven
where the love of our lost ones
    pours through

Great post -It got me thinking about a book I am reading again -”Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline” by Becky A. Bailey. The cover of the book and the title do not do this little book justice because it actually speaks more about what you are saying here. About asking those hard questions on how we want to “model” for our children. If you have time I highly recommend it. I think you may enjoy some of the concepts she presents.
