Tutus + Hot Air Balloon Festival

I was never a tutu fan when Kendall was a baby but an impulse purchase at Target changed my mind. I might be a little biased but isn’t she adorable?!

After twirling around in her tutu KB and I headed out in the beautiful weather to enjoy seeing the hot air balloons float about. She was amazed by the amount of hot air it takes to blow up the balloon and to see it take off. Frankly I was too. After watching the balloons for a bit she darted straight for the bounce house and slide. This is by far her favorite activity. At times it takes bribery just to get her out.

So after a long day of twirling and walking around we’re chilling in our pjs looking forward to another beautiful day and spending time with good friends.

Happy weekend!

Eat Pray LoveHappy weekend friends!

Good wine, food, friends and family are all I wished for my birthday this year and it’s coming true! Tonight my dear friend, K, is taking me to dinner and to see Eat Pray Love. I wanted to finish reading the book before seeing the movie but my wish for more hours in a day was rejected. Oh well…I’ll still see it. Tomorrow we’re taking part in the last day of tax free weekend here in CT to get KB some fall/winter clothes as she is in desparate need of them. Maybe a few articles of clothing for mom will sneak into the bag too, we’ll see. And to round out the weekend the hubby is taking me on what he calls “Bridgett’s Birthday Spectacular”. No joke, he actually wrote that on the calendar. I think I figured out the surprise but won’t say so in case I’m wrong. Don’t fret, I’ll come back Monday with all the details.

Do you have any plans this weekend? Have you seen Eat Pray Love yet?

1st Birthday

PD CustomerLast month I was contacted by Lucas’ mom to help her with his first birthday party. Her inspiration was the party I threw for Kendall’s 2nd birthday. We collaborated on a color scheme of blue and red to pair well with the ivory cake. So I designed invitations just like Kendall’s, food flags, favor labels, silverware wraps, and stickers to encase the cd she made for her guests of Lucas’ favorite songs. What a neat idea!

Thanks Luciana for sharing your pictures and happy birthday Lucas!

Just do

A Little HutLast night I came across Patricia’s impromptu paper project and I intended on sharing the beauty and intricacies of the lines and small crevices with you today but as I began to write about it something deeper developed.

Patricia just did it.

She picked up her Xacto knife without fear and created a marvelous paper cube. She let nothing hold her back and allowed her true self to shine through.

This is what I need…to just do. I recently had an email conversation with Jess from Make Under My Life after reading her letter to small businesses and it instantly hit me like a ton of bricks. I know what’s keeping me from reaching my goals and moving my business along…it’s me. I need to just do. I need to stop reading every blog, forum, and e-book that I think will give me a quick answer on how to achieve my goals. I need to stop comparing myself to other companies and designers and beat myself up as to why I’m not quite there yet. Because you know what? I will be. Not I think I will or I hope to be…but I WILL. I will reach my goals and surpass them. I will not let fear dictate what I do or who I contact. I have learned all that I can absorb right now and it’s time to put my plan into action. It’s time to take those goals I’ve written down in my planner and stop staring at them and just go for it.

I’ve mentioned Thoreau’s quote before but I’ll mention it again:

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.

It’s time to live the life I was destined to live and it’s time for you to do the same. Do you have goals that you were too scared to tackle? What’s holding you back? Why haven’t you reached for them? Jot down your thoughts and create baby steps to get you where you want to be. There’s nothing keeping you from them except… you.

a true day off + friends

Dirt CakeToday was the first time in I don’t know how long I actually took an entire day off from working. And it felt so good! It really made me think and realize how much a break from a routine can really recharge the batteries, and that was exactly what I needed.

We have friends visiting from Vermont this weekend and as soon as I heard the news I immediately became excited and started to plan out the weekend which of course revolved around food and party planning. We invited mutual friends over for a get-together. The first thing I planned to make was the dirt cake I saw on Baked Bree’s blog. I tweaked it a bit by making chocolate pudding and mixing in cool whip versus making my own whip cream and it still came out so tasty! For Kendall, I attempted making whip cream out of silken tofu and mixing that with her soy chocolate pudding. Not too sure about that one but she ate it. I mean, who can resist Oreo’s and gummy worms? For the main course we had marinated chicken with orzo salad with spinach and feta, corn on the cob and a new staple, strawberry lemonade. I’m so full thinking about it all but will still probably sneak in a late night snack.

As I reflect on our house full of friends, kids, and laughter I realize we need more carefree days like this. More days to enjoy each other’s company without the pressure of completing a to-do list. We need to recognize that taking a day off isn’t being selfish because in the end, a happy and relaxed person makes a more productive and creative business owner.

i’m still here

Still HereWell hello there!

I know, I know. It’s been awhile since I dropped by to say hello. Things have been quite busy around here at PD. Sales of our personalized muslin bags have soared so I’m trying to keep up with the demand. My customers have been really creative in terms of uses for the bags: wedding shower favors, bachelorette party grab bags, you name it!

So while trying to keep up with the sales, I’m trying to make sense of my new routine. I used to be such a morning person, even before I had a child. I would love to sit on Sunday mornings with my coffee and plan out the week starting with making our dinner menu and then grocery shopping list. I was the one who was at the mall as soon as it opened on Saturdays. Which have you ever done that? I bet if you have you always will – close parking and no crowds to get in your way or steal the last dress on sale. Who can resist? It’s fabulous, trust me. For a brief period of time, I even switched my work hours to 4:30am and then go to my nine to five job. Some thought I was crazy but I loved it! I got so much done without the distraction of Facebook, Twitter, etc…because no one else was up.

But as of late I don’t look forward to mornings as I used to. My energy has been lacking. I’ve noticed a bit of a difference in my attitude, energy levels, drive, etc…so I decided to do a little experiment. For one day I took all gluten/wheat products out of my diet after reading several articles about gluten allergies and boy did I immediately notice a difference. I didn’t feel exhausted after eating or other issues that I’ll spare you the details of. So when I went to my chiropractor last week I mentioned to him what was going on. He did he homepathetic tests and it did indeed show that I have a sensivity to gluten. Now I need to figure out to what extent I’m sensitive or allergic to it. So I’m waiting for blood tests to come back sometime this week and then I’ll go from there.

After my appointment, I jokingly said to my husband what are we going to eat now? As he looked at my daughter who has her share of allergies and then me, he just chuckled. We’ll figure it out, I know we will but it won’t be an easy transition however I’m really looking forward to getting my energy back because daily naps, although are fantastic, aren’t really PC in the corporate world. Darn!

So I wonder if I’ll return to my early wake up time or continue burning the midnight oil. Who knows? Jessica Swift recently had a change in her routine which she attributed to the seasons. Never thought of that. How about you? Are you a morning person or late owl?
