I’m in love with Tyler

And no, I’m not cheating on my husband. But there is a new little guy in our lives and I’m so thrilled, giddy with excitement actually, to have chosen a name for him.

Tyler Montgomery Edwards.

It’s not a common name. It’s distinguished yet playful. Strong yet gentle. A little bit Southern and regal.

It’s perfect.

I get goosebumps every time I hear his name or write it down. When Wayne talks to him and whisper’s his name my eyes well up with tears.

There’s no deep meaning behind the name we chose. It’s rather a name his daddy chose for him married with my love for the name ‘Montgomery.’

A perfect name for our son.

2012. A year of intent

Our little man at 18 weeks

Happy New Year friends!

We enjoyed spending time last night with new and old friends and had a blast! We got home an hour before midnight and the little lady fell asleep on my lap and I remembered exactly one year ago from that moment, I wrote this tumblr post as I hit the button to reserve my space to attend Making Things Happen.

I really want to say that attending MTH changed my life but it didn’t. Instead it made me think and opened my eyes and made me grow as a person. A single event cannot change a person’s life, but it can plant that seed for change. And I am so so happy that I put fear aside and decided to go.

So looking back in all that I accomplished in 2011 I’ve decided to not focus on the little goals but the big picture, and for me that’s intent.

I will live intentional.

I will strip multi-tasking to the core and focus on one thing at a time.

I will stop trying to achieve this perfect balance of motherhood and entrepreneur and rather ride the ebbs and flows.

I will learn to let go. (This I guarantee you will be THE most hardest one for me.)

I will open doors instead of closing them.

I will welcome new life into our world.

I will live.

I hope you all welcomed 2012 with open arms and look forward to an outstanding new year!

xo,
B

Homemade Mousepad

Homemade MousepadToday Kendall and I were playing around doing arts and crafts and I remembered I had some fabric I made awhile ago lying around. So I decided to spruce up a rather boring mousepad I had with some snazzy fabric. All I did was simply cut out a square and used adhesive spray to adhere the fabric and with a hot glue gun, went around the edges to give a clean look. 15 minutes and I have a new mousepad!

Modern Monday with MM Ink

Can you believe there’s only 2 weeks until Christmas? Maybe I should finish my holiday shopping, huh? But first I wanted to share someone I’ve admired for awhile on Twitter. Moya, the designer behind MM Ink, does calligraphy that is oh so beautiful! It instantly changes the look and feel of a plain envelope, logo, etc…to something spectacular and I couldn’t be more excited to share her with you today.

Tell us about your business.
MM Ink is a calligraphy and design studio that offers fine hand lettering for invitations, addressing, event tablescapes, gift items, and business branding. I do all of the lettering by hand so each piece is carefully crafted with love and infused with personality and style.

How have you grown your business from an idea to where it is now?
I have been doing calligraphy as a hobby since the age of 12 and enjoyed creating gifts for family and friends. I fell in love with this art form and wanted to spend some time learning more and perfecting my craft. To achieve this, I studied under a Master Penman for my script work and a well known international calligrapher for my broad edge pen work. I also did as many workshops as I could and with the encouragement of my family and friends (and lots of practice), I started the business in 2003. Since then, I have expanded the number of styles that I offer, added business branding to my product offering and formed wonderful partnerships with people who also love calligraphy and are a delight to work with.

Why did you begin your business?
I feel very blessed to have this talent and wanted to share this beautiful art form with others. It brings me so much joy and I wanted to experience that in my work everyday.

Where do you draw your inspiration from and how do you apply it to your business?
I am inspired by all things pretty, beautiful photography and music. I read blogs, and comb through magazines to get my creative side going. And when the time allows, I sketch and give myself the freedom to play with letters and flourishes.

Describe a typical day
I am still at my corporate job so that occupies most of my working day. I pick up my 3 kids from daycare/aftercare and then it’s homework, dinner, family time, bath time, bedtime stories some nights, and lights out for them. Then I put on my MM Ink hat and get rolling with emails and orders. My husband and I share the office/studio and is usually in there with me; so we catch up on the day and take a break for a cup of tea to enjoy with each other. We have also reserved Friday nights as our date nights just in case the week got too busy.

Name 3 interesting facts many people don’t know about you.
Well, let’s see…..1. I was born and raised in the Bahamas 2. I am clumsy (I think my feet and brain don’t always receive the same memo :) 3. I studied accounting in college and I am a CPA as well
