Modern Monday with Skoope

Today I’m bringing you a brand new modern home accessory shop, Skoope. Shae’s style is sleek and modern, right up my alley! I’ve got a few pieces bookmarked already. Let’s see how this young entrepreneur does it all.

Tell us about your business.
Skoope is a fresh and modern home accessories line focusing on small accent pieces for everyday living. It’s all about sprucing up your living space with the smallest details; from changing a pillow cover, adding a fresh lampshade cover or placing contemporary coaster to a otherwise lonely table.

How have you grown your business from an idea to where it is now?
Since starting in August 2011, I’ve expanded to coasters, lampshade covers, table mats, towels, and coasters; but originally I just had the concept of creating modern interiors. I wanted to offer my customers a wide range of items that would allow them to create an entire look. One thing I’ve been able to work out while growing my business is “sticking to your niche“. Skoope’s niche is modern, so I’m always trying to find awesome fabrics and prints that appeal to my modern customer.

Why did you begin your business?
I started Skoope because first, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and second, I wanted to offer the wonders of my bedroom to others. Okay, so that second part sounds weird when you first read it, but I wanted others to be able to share in my love of modern decorating, or décor-ing; as I like to call it. I want everyone whether in an apartment like myself or a ten room house to be able to enjoy a beautifully modern designer look, which is what Skoope is all about.

Where do you draw your inspiration from and how do you apply it to your business?
I draw a lot of my inspirations from everyday home appliances. I’m constantly thinking of ways to spruce up the simplest things that are always in our environment, but in a modern way; hence my lampshade covers. It’s just taking something we use everyday and trying to make it fresh.

Describe a typical day.
On a typical day I set about five alarms from between 3 AM – 7 AM; in hopes of getting some early bird sewing done but end up missing them all and waking up at 8 AM. I eat a little breakfast and I’m off to sewing. I sew from about 8 AM – 1 PM then it’s printing packing labels and packaging orders. Any time between 2 PM and 5 PM is spent getting the post office before they close for the day. And I’m back home by 6:30 pm hoping to get a few shots of new items before the good sunlight is gone. After that it’s about 7 PM and I’m eating and finally sitting down for some television (which I prefer to keep on until I fall asleep) and then I‘m out for the night; only to hopefully do it all over again the next day!

Name 3 interesting facts many people don’t know about you.
(a) I crack up to the recorded sound of my own laughter
(b) I often use the terminology “when I was younger” although I’m only 22.
(c) My favorite movie of all time in Aladdin simply because it was amazing.
